SHANGHAI – September 25, 2024 – Avient Corporation, a leading provider of specialized and sustainable materials solutions and services, will exhibit its extensive portfolio of medical-grade materials and solutions for healthcare applications at Medtec China 2024, including the announcement of newly expanded manufacturing for its NEU™ Custom Capabilities and NEUSoft™ Thermoplastics Polyurethane (TPU) solution for catheter applications in China. The show, one of China's top medical technology exhibitions, starts today.

Avient’s portfolio of colorants and additives, thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs), and specialty engineered polymers helps customers meet performance demands, comply with medical and pharmaceutical regulations, and accelerate speed to market. To support this, Avient’s medical-grade colorants and additives are manufactured at sites certified under GMP or ISO 13485-2016 standards. Additionally, Avient’s ISO 13485 manufacturing site in Singapore for its Mevopur™ formulations recently achieved ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation for Biological Evaluation of Medical Devices–Part 5: Tests for In-Vitro Cytotoxicity.

Examples of Avient’s various polymer technologies featured at the show include:

  • Newly Expanded Manufacturing of NEU™ Custom Capabilities and NEUSoft™ Thermoplastics Polyurethanes for catheter applications: now produced in Suzhou, China, offering customized services and rapid response times to customers from Asia Pacific, a series of ultra-soft TPUs for short-term in-vivo applications that are available in custom colors with excellent ultraviolet (UV) stability and barrier properties, offer good elasticity, resistance to abrasions and tears, barrier properties, and melt strength for use in a host of catheter applications, including cardiovascular, intravenous, and other specialty segments . (link to full press release here).
  • Recently Launched Colorant Chromatics™ Evoluscend™ Non-PFAS High-Temperature Mold Release Additive: a high-temperature polymer mold release additive made without intentionally added PFAS and developed to boost production efficiency and product quality for manufacturers. It meets FDA and ISO 109931 standards for sulfone products and can be effective across a range of high-temperature polymers, including PEEK, PPSU, PES, PSU, PEI, LCP, and PPS, with a maximum service temperature exceeding 150°C.
  • Mevopur™ Healthcare Colorants and Functional Additives: formulations pre-tested to support compliance with regulatory requirements, such as USP Class VI, ISO 10993, EP3.1, USP661.1, and ICH Q3D and manufactured across a global network of ISO 13485-certified facilities or under GMP certifications.
  • Mevopur™ Healthcare Bio-based Polymer Solutions: color and additive concentrates based on polymers with 70-95% bio-content and pre-tested raw materials to help reduce carbon footprint and mitigate risk, available in pre-colored formulations, offer a sustainable drop-in replacement for fossil-based grades and can be processed and recycled in the same channels.
  • Cesa™ Low Retention Additives for Healthcare: formulations that can repel water and other liquids that deliver the last drop out of a package or devices such as pipette tips to change surface retention performance and enable fast evacuation.
  • Colorant Chromatics™ Transcend™ Premier Healthcare Colorants: bright, high-temperature solutions used in medical applications, offered in pre-colored formulations or color concentrates in vivid, opaque, and transparent colors that are fully bio-compatible per ISO 10993 standards. Customized colors and solutions are also available to meet specific needs.
  • Versaflex™ HC & Versaflex™ HC BIO BT Series TPEs: grades formulated specifically to handle the complexities of healthcare and biopharmaceutical tubing, including excellent weldability, kink resistance, and low extractables, delivering comparable performance to competing materials such as silicone and PVC tubing, while providing lower Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) values than other materials* The Versaflex HC BIO BT218 grade is formulated with 40% bio-derived content and provides a sustainable substitute for traditional materials. They are manufactured at an ISO13485-2016-certified site and pre-tested to specific regulatory demands, including USP Class VI and ISO 10993. *PCF values are available for these products and are based upon a TUV-certified ISO-14067: 2018 process.
  • Medical-grade pharmaceutical packaging solutions: oxygen scavenging additives, amber and white colorants, and white HDPE for MVTR (Moisture Vapor Transmission rate) reduction to protect drugs or nutraceuticals against UV light, moisture, and oxygen that cause product degradation.
  • TPEs and specialty engineered polymers for auto-injector pens: offer excellent chemical and impact resistance, good self-lubrication functions, durability to extend product life and meet biocompatibility and food-contact safety regulations. Avient’s experts can provide technical support for material selection, part and tool design, and process development to help accelerate commercialization.

Avient will exhibit at Medtec China 2024 at Hall H2, Booth No. 2D411, at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center, September 25–27, 2024.
